When you turn 55, CPF creates a Retirement Account (RA) for you. GoalsMapper mirrors this process as closely as possible to CPF's rules.
Forming your RA
Your SA balance is used first, followed by your OA balance, to fund the RA up to the retirement sum target you have chosen — Basic Retirement Sum (BRS), Full Retirement Sum (FRS), or Enhanced Retirement Sum (ERS).
Your SA account is then permanently closed.
What happens to any excess balance?
If your SA and OA balances exceed your chosen retirement sum, the excess can either be withdrawn as cash or kept in CPF.
⚙️ Setting: You can configure whether your excess CPF balance is withdrawn as cash or kept in your CPF accounts under Settings > CPF. Default behaviour is to withdraw the excess as cash.
If you choose to keep it in CPF, the excess flows as follows:
- If your RA has not yet reached FRS, remaining SA balance flows to your RA
- If your RA has reached FRS, remaining SA balance flows to your OA
⚙️ Setting: If you have chosen ERS as your target, you can enable "Automatically Redirect SA to RA After FRS" to keep directing your remaining SA balance into your RA — even after FRS is reached — until ERS is achieved. Without this setting, excess SA flows to OA once FRS is reached. This option is enabled by default
Special case — if you have chosen ERS: GoalsMapper will conveniently continue redirecting any remaining SA balance into your RA until the ERS level is reached, even after FRS has been achieved. This saves you from having to manually top up your RA to reach ERS.
What if you continue working after 55?
Since the SA is closed, the portion of your ongoing CPF contributions that would normally go to SA is redirected as follows:
- RA has not yet reached FRS → contributions go to RA
- RA has reached FRS → contributions go to OA
⚙️ Setting: The same "Automatically Redirect SA to RA After FRS" setting applies here — if enabled and your target is ERS, contributions will continue flowing into your RA even after FRS is reached, until ERS is achieved.
