Can I include my funeral wishes in my Will?
Yes. GM Legacy allows you to include your Funeral Wishes when creating your Will. This gives you the option to state how you would prefer your body to be handled after your passing.
You may indicate preferences such as:
- Burial or cremation
- Specific burial locations
- Preferred funeral rites or customs
This helps document your wishes so your loved ones are aware of your intentions.
Are funeral wishes in a Will legally enforceable?
No. Funeral wishes stated in a Will represent an expression of your intentions only. They are not legally binding and do not impose obligations on your trustee, executor, or any other person.
Your family or executor may consider your wishes, but they are not legally required to carry them out.
Will my family see my funeral wishes immediately after my passing?
Not necessarily. In many situations, a Will may not be read immediately after death. Because of this, a Will may not always be the most effective way to communicate urgent funeral instructions.
It is recommended to communicate your wishes in advance with your family or trusted persons.
You may also consider pre-planning arrangements, such as:
- Purchasing burial plots
- Pre-arranging funeral packages
- Clearly informing family members of your preferred funeral arrangements
This ensures your wishes are known and easier to carry out.
