Our financial planning tool provides education cost projections based on current tuition fees and living expenses from official university fee schedules, government education authorities, and student visa requirements. We source data from leading institutions in each country to ensure our estimates reflect realistic costs for both local and international students. These figures are refreshed quarterly to keep pace with annual fee increases and currency movements.
How we estimate tuition fees
Tuition estimates come directly from official university fee schedules published by each institution's registrar or admissions office. In countries where public university tuition is negligible for domestic students, we use leading private institutions to provide meaningful planning benchmarks.
We group academic programmes into broad fields (such as Medicine, Engineering, Business, Arts, and Science) and average fees across multiple universities within each country. This approach accounts for variation between institutions while providing reliable planning figures. For fields of study not explicitly listed by a university, we apply the closest comparable programme — for example, Accountancy uses Business rates, and Architecture typically follows Engineering rates.
How we estimate living costs
Living cost estimates prioritise official government sources, particularly student visa financial requirements, as these represent the minimum amount immigration authorities consider necessary for student life. Where available, we use figures from government education portals and official cost-of-living guidance for international students.
For countries without standardised government estimates, we compile data from university cost-of-attendance budgets and reliable education advisory sources. Our ranges reflect the difference between budget-conscious living (often in smaller cities or shared accommodation) and comfortable lifestyles in major metropolitan areas.
These figures cover accommodation, food, local transport, utilities, personal expenses, and basic healthcare, but exclude tuition fees and one-off costs.

Singapore
Tuition data is averaged across three leading universities: the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU), using their published fee schedules for new students entering in Academic Year 2026/27. Local rates apply to Singapore Citizens receiving the Ministry of Education (MOE) Tuition Grant subsidy, while international rates reflect Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) students with MOE Tuition Grant (the subsidised tier).
Living cost estimates come from NUS official guidance, which provides detailed annual breakdowns ranging from SGD 6,000 (excluding accommodation) to SGD 11,750 (including on-campus housing).

Australia
Tuition estimates average annual international undergraduate fees from five leading institutions: the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the Australian National University (ANU), and the University of Queensland (UQ). These universities publish detailed international fee tables by field of study, with fees typically ranging from AUD 30,000 to over AUD 90,000 annually depending on the programme.
Australian universities generally do not publish domestic tuition separately as Commonwealth Supported Places are funded differently; our data reflects international self-funded student rates only.

United Kingdom
UK tuition data draws from nine Russell Group universities: the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), University College London (UCL), the University of Edinburgh, King's College London (KCL), the University of Manchester, the University of Warwick, and the University of Bristol. International undergraduate fees are averaged across institutions, with programmes grouped into bands (such as Arts and Humanities, Science and Engineering, and Medicine).
Living cost estimates use the UK government's official student visa financial requirements: GBP 10,539 annually for students outside London (GBP 1,171/month for nine months) and GBP 13,761 for London-based students (GBP 1,529/month).

Malaysia
Malaysian estimates combine data from Universiti Malaya (UM), a leading public university, and Monash University Malaysia, a respected private institution. Local tuition reflects UM's published fee structure for Malaysian citizens, while international rates average total programme costs from both universities, converted to annual figures based on standard programme durations (three to five years depending on the field).
Living cost estimates come from the Malaysian government's official education portal, ranging from MYR 10,800 for budget living to MYR 21,600 annually for a comfortable student lifestyle, based on monthly accommodation, food, transport, and personal expense breakdowns.

When we update these numbers
We refresh all tuition and living cost data annually (typically around April). University fee schedules are typically published once a year (usually between March and July for the following academic year), so our tuition figures are updated as new schedules become available.
Currency movements are not tracked separately — all figures remain in local currency, and any conversion is handled at the point of use.
